Aquaculture
Development
To feed the world and alleviate pressure on wild caught seafood stocks, the aquaculture industry must expand. Globally, production of farmed seafood continues to grow rapidly, while the United States lags behind. Today, the U.S. suffers from a $14 billion seafood deficit that will continue to grow unless we embrace and support the industry.
Triton Aquatic has the experience and passion to advance opportunities for commercial aquaculture in the Pacific Island Region. We work with state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private companies to promote sustainable and environmentally-sound aquaculture development and fish pond restoration. We are working towards improving the regulatory environment, increasing technical and regional capacity of farms and associated businesses, and providing cost-effective services, including surveys and facility siting, acquisition of permits, and environmental monitoring.
Marine Resource Management and Spatial Planning
Hawaii is home to beautiful beaches and warm waters that draw locals and visitors alike every day to swim, surf, paddle, and sail. Our nearshore waters are also utilized for military training, scientific research, tour operators, and shipping and commerce, as well as commercial, recreational, subsistence and sustenance fisheries.
Triton Aquatic understands the pressure on government agencies to provide commercial opportunities while protecting these irreplaceable resources, as well as industry’s need to be financially competitive and government agencies to be fiscally responsible. We work with industry and government to find cost-effective solutions that minimize user conflicts, develop and implement best management practices, minimize and mitigate impacts that protect our priceless marine resources, ensuring their continued protection for future generations.
Environmental
Compliance
The environmental regulatory structure is complex, with overlapping responsibilities among and between various county, state and federal agencies. Any given project within the coastal zone can trigger a host of rules and regulations, public involvement, agency consultations, monitoring and reporting.
Triton Aquatic has the experience to successfully and efficiently navigate these requirements from small non-consumptive activities to large construction and maintenance projects. Our staff has a long history working with all levels of resource agencies responsible for managing and protecting the ocean and land, human health and living and cultural resources. This experience is key in facilitating the requirements necessary for project approval.
